Grand Love
I think perhaps that our grandparents are the buffer before our very own parent’s death, which is maybe another reason we take it so hard, we feel the lining between blissful childhood and being orphans has finally worn away… That, and the love, that entirely enduring, unconditional, love.
Your parents must find it hard to love you so unconditionally because they’re so immediate to you, whereas Grandparents are just distant enough to not be directly responsible for you or how you are to end up. They can be objective, there’s nothing freudian or Greek tragedy about it.
I have known a love like no other.
